Glastonbury Town Trails

Walking is a great way to explore Glastonbury and you do not need to venture far to see some of Glastonbury’s best bits. Whether it is a stroll up and down High Street, or an all day hike, there is something for everyone.

There is something for everyone in this article in which I look at short documented walks taking you around the town and its key features.

Glastonbury town trails published by various organisations have been around for many years; each one is usually a variant of an earlier version! If you want a short walk around the town centre here are some trails that may whet your appetite:

  • Glastonbury Abbey Meditation & Prayer Walk

Spiritual journey around the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey [FREE but requires entry to Glastonbury Abbey£].

Download and print the walk for free here

  • The Glastonbury Heritage Ash Trail

One for tree lovers [FREE].

The Ash tree is in danger of extinction in Europe but Glastonbury is home to some mighty Ash trees. Along the lanes and in the hedgerows of Stonedown Hill reside some of the largest – ranging from towering maiden trees laden with veteran features, to gnarled and stunted old working pollards with upwards of 4m girth. This circular walking trail visits 20 notable and veteran Ash trees. Created by Matt Witt of To The Trees who offers many guided tree walks.

Full details of The Glastonbury Trail including a map are contained in the Glastonbury and Street Visitors Guide available from the Glastonbury Information Centre.

  • Glastonbury Treasure Hunt Trail

One for the family and pirates [£].

Self-guided treasure hunt themed trail. As you follow the trail route you try to solve clues set on existing buildings, permanent features and monuments to discover the location of the buried treasure. This circular trail takes in all the historical points of interest in the town and climbs the Tor. The trail is approximately 4.4 km long and takes 2 ½ hours to complete.

The trail booklet can be purchased online and can be received by post or downloaded from the Treasure Trails website here

  • Glastonbury Mural Trail

50 years after the first mural appeared in Glastonbury, the Glastonbury Mural Trail was launched in 2019

Creative types will love the Glastonbury Mural Trail which is a Town Council and Chamber of Commerce and Tourism initiative to keep Glastonbury colourful. This ongoing project is a growing collection of stunning wall murals painted by various artists in various locations across the town.
